Directions
-
Prepare the Onions: Mix the dried onion flakes with the boiling water and let them sit until they are rehydrated and no longer dry and crunchy.
-
Form the Patty: Roll the ground beef into a ball and press it flat on waxed paper until it's about 1/8 inch thick.
-
Toast the Bun: Brown the faces of the bun in a dry frying pan over medium heat. Remove the bun and set it aside.
-
Cook the Patty: In the same pan, cook the burger patty for 2 minutes per side, salting each side lightly during cooking.
-
Assemble the Burger: On the top bun-half, spread the ketchup, mustard, and rehydrated onions in that order. Top with the pickle slice. Place the beef patty on the bottom bun and quickly slap the top and bottom together.
-
Optional Step for Cheeseburgers: If you're making a cheeseburger, add a slice of American cheese on top of the beef patty before assembling. Microwave the burger on high for 10-15 seconds to help steam the bun and simulate being wrapped in paper.
